Taco Cabana

A freestanding Taco Cabana restaurant with a patio and the brand’s signature tower, photographed at dusk.

Taco Cabana restaurant exterior at dusk with its lit sign tower and fenced patio

About this project

The photos show a freestanding Taco Cabana: the brand’s magenta sign tower, a glass dining room on two sides, a fenced patio with decorative metal panels under the canopy, and the drive-thru side of the building, photographed at dusk with the dining room lit. Inside, the dining room pairs wood tables with black tile and string lights.

The two Taco Cabana projects on record were remodels of operating restaurants: 4,034 sq ft on Precinct Line Road in Hurst and 4,015 sq ft on Westheimer Road in Houston. A remodel like this brings a freestanding store up to the brand’s current design, patio, dining room and signage included, while the restaurant keeps serving. The store in the photographs carries the building number 1495, the Hurst location.

Harrison builds restaurants & qsr projects as tenant finish-outs, freestanding buildings and remodels, with pre-construction first. More about restaurants & qsr construction.

What a build like this involves

  1. A walk-through of the open restaurant: what stays, what goes, where the work can be staged without closing the kitchen
  2. Phasing: dining room, restrooms, exterior and kitchen in a sequence that keeps the doors open or limits the closure to days, not weeks
  3. Demolition and the new finishes: flooring, tile, millwork, seating, lighting, the brand’s current graphics package and signage
  4. Kitchen and equipment changes, hood and fire-suppression updates, and any accessibility and code items the city asks for with the permit
  5. Night and off-hours work where needed, daily clean-up, and the final inspections with the store still trading
Why it matters to the ownerA remodel of a working restaurant is measured in lost sales as much as in cost. A contractor that phases the job around service hours and closes each area quickly keeps the store earning while it changes.

FAQ

Questions about a project like Taco Cabana

All questions and answers

Does Harrison Construction build Taco Cabana restaurants?

Taco Cabana is on the Harrison Construction client list, and the freestanding restaurant in these photos is from our project gallery. Ask us about the location you are planning.

Can you remodel a restaurant that stays open?

Yes. Both Taco Cabana projects on record were remodels of operating restaurants. The work is phased around service hours so the store keeps trading.

Can you build a freestanding restaurant with a patio and a drive-thru?

Yes. Freestanding restaurants are the work of our ground-up division: site work, structure, kitchen, dining room, patio and drive-thru under one contract.

Are you bonded and insured?

Yes. Harrison Construction is fully bonded and insured, and licensed in Texas and 29 other states.

How do I get a price for a project like this?

Send the address, the lease or the site status, any drawings or the brand’s prototype and the date you need to open. We visit the site, review the documents and come back with a conceptual estimate, value-engineering options and a schedule.
